First, let me start off by saying that I love pool!
I have done a lot of things in my life, and none of them for very long.-except
for pool. I began doing tips and ferrules for friends with a homemade
lathe that was a drill strapped to a board. Soon I was repairing house
cues for the local bars and doing tips for all the players...
The first cue I built was made with the drill motor.
It is 67" long!! (Can you believe that???) The guy that I made this
cue for is 6'8" and his 58" cue looked like it was a jump stick in his
hands. I made the cue for him and gave it to him for free. I knew at
that point that I wanted to be a cuemaker. I found a used Porper lathe
and soon began making sneaky petes for 80 dollars a piece. A few months
later, I bought the rest of my equipment from a cue maker that decided
to quit. It happened real fast and here I was with a CNC mill and a
lathe and no idea how it all worked! The cue maker left the country
the day before I bought the equipment and I had no one to show me how
it all worked. Luckily, I did have some manuals and with a lot of trial
and error and after cutting apart a few cues, I was in business.
Almost all that I have learned has been from ground
zero. I have since talked to a lot of cue makers and feel that the way
I learned gave me an excellent understanding of how a pool cue should
be put together. I search for the very best materials, and do top quality
work. I also stand behind what I do fully, 100 percent. I do not send
a cue out if I am not personally happy with how it turned out. Each
cue I make is special, and each customer is treated with respect. Most
of my customers have ordered more than one cue!!
I have learned a lot and met a lot of people by reading
pool newsgroups. rec.sport.billiard
and alt.sport.pool are a great resource
for information. Sometimes they are quite entertaining as well! There
are some real characters hanging around. I make mostly one of a kind
cues, by special order only, that's why you will see no cue "Series"
on my site, or in my repertoire. I occasionally have a finished cue
for sale and I can make jump cues and "break cues" as part of a set..
